Description

The California Nebula is a large and bright emission nebula in the constellation Perseus, best observable in fall (northern hemisphere). It is ionized by the luminous star Menkib (xi-Persei) and emits mostly H-alpha radiation.

We composed this image from a deeply exposed H-alpha image and shorter RGB images for the background and stars in order to get the best out of the atrocious observing conditions in the city of Heidelberg, Germany.
